Esther Carolino

Hello, I am a mathematics instructor teaching Statistics, Calculus, Trigonometry, and other math courses. I earned my B.S. in Mathematics and a Master’s in Education from UCLA, having started my academic journey as a community college transfer student.

After teaching high school students for many years, I decided to pursue my M.S. in Mathematics—returning to school after 10 years was a challenge, but it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Now, I have the privilege of teaching math at one of the best community colleges, where I can support and inspire students on their own educational paths.

Nick Schooler

I’m Nick Schooler (he/him), a science facilitator with an interdisciplinary background in biology, ecology, physics, chemistry, and earth science. I earned my B.S. in Aquatic Biology and Ph.D. in Marine Science from UC Santa Barbara, where my research focused on how human activities and environmental factors shape sandy beach and surf zone biodiversity. My work has taken me from diving on oil platforms and in kelp forests to collaborating with fishermen and collecting data in marshes and on beaches.

I teach Principles of Biology (BIOL V01 & V01L) and Marine Biology (BIOL V29 & V29L), and I’m always happy to chat with you about marine biology, invertebrate zoology, or anything science-related. I’ve mentored hundreds of students who’ve gone on to careers both in and outside of biology. Keep an eye out for the Field Biology internship I run through Channel Islands National Park.

I’m also a huge sports fan! I played football and lacrosse in high school and lacrosse in college. I love to talk sports The 49ers, Warriors, and Giants are my favorite teams, but I also love rooting against the Dodgers and Lakers. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you want advice, need help with science, or just want to talk sports!
